April completed her Ph.D. in the cultural foundations of education at Syracuse University in 2013. She has coauthored a number of articles on student success models and presented extensively on African American community, life, and history in the Greater North Bay Area of California, including exhibits such as at the Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park in Richmond, California.
Her research includes examinations of the Underground Railroad, the Harlem Renaissance, and the westward migrations of African Americans, particularly during the rise of 19th century black towns and settlements, World War II, and the postwar period in her native Marin County, California. Her recent work brings together her decades-long residency in the North Bay, her real estate experience, and her training as a historian. A soon-to-be-published piece examines housing shifts in relation to the decline of blue-collar work and the rise of IT industries in the North Bay. She is a consultant and California licensed real estate agent.
She has a professional membership in the National Association of Realtors, the California Association of Realtors, the North Bay Association of Realtors, the Mendocino County Association of Realtors, the Lake County Association of Realtors, BAREIS MLS – Bay Area, CRMLS – California Regional, and METROLink MLS – Sacramento Regional.
